Although for many there might be a clear line between professional and personal development, for others, this line is but very thin if present at all. I believe on the former since I take no experience in my life for granted – may it be professional or personal.

The key for either of these developments is an individual’s yearning and willingness to learn and improve as one human being. What kind of learning, professional or personal, does not really matter. So long as you have learned and you keep learning, who knows how such a learning can be used throughout your life.

Let’s go back to the early 90’s for a moment. Back then, learning how to use the computer can be part of your professional or personal development. Others are required by work to learn such relatively newer technology making it part of their professional development. Others on the other hand are just one of those what we now call, techies, always eager to try out the latest innovations for personal growth. If you belonged to the latter, most likely than not, you are using the computer these days at work in one way or another. Your goal of personal development decades ago has also been used to foster your profession today.

Given the example above, it only goes to show that professional and personal development does not really have to be two independent things. So long as you value learning and take every experience in your life as a chance to learn, you are off to better yourself professionally and personally as time goes by. After all, as human beings, we can only be one package. It’s not like we can divide ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally into two – one for work and one for our personal life.

Professional and Personal Development Trainings

So what should you expect in seminars that are said to be for either professional development or personal growth? Besides expecting to learn a thing or two, you should expect to get to know the core competencies that successful individuals have in common. These fundamental traits are naturally taught in such seminars for a reason, they are universal.

With all that said, think of professional and personal development the next time you are doing the smallest thing in your life more so if your organizing your company’s next development and skills training. After all, life is a journey and we never know what we will become come the future. Say you are cleaning your room, think of ways to clean it in a more efficient manner. Seek to always learn and improve. With such a small endeavor, you will never know what you will learn by doing so can be used at work one of these days. Keep seeking ways to improve and learn to become a better person as time goes by just like how a good wine will taste better the longer it is aged in oak barrels.
